That means keeping up with how taxpayer money is spent, what our leaders say and do and how all of that plays out in your neighborhood.

Before The Times, I was an intern for the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire in Washington, a young readers edition of the Chicago Tribune called RedEye, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
I'm a native of nearby Doyline, La., and earned a degree in mass communication at LSU.
